PPI is getting on my nerves!!

Options
I tried to claim for PPi mis-selling from NatWest ages ago, but they kept fobbing me off - sending info I didn't understand. They wouldn't send me a policy number for any of the loans I'd had with them. I took it out in 2002 but have no details about it at all. Am I too late to keep trying to get money back from them? I'm in loads of debt, on a DMP and I just want what I'm owed from them to pay towards that. Please help

Unfortunately, they are only required to keep your records for six years, when did the loan end? It's unlikely they'll have any of your policy numbers etc as they shouldn't keep hold of them after this time.
Do you have any active current accounts with them? Could you go back through your statements and see if there are any reference numbers/payments? It's not that they're fobbing you off, it's just that the records are out of date and so they can't track it to anything.
It doesn't mean you can't try it though, I would suggest you put in the claim and as you can't prove you had it, they can't prove you didn't. Unfortunately without a cost for the policy, it would be difficult for them to know how much you paid. I'm assuming you have no details yourself, no contract/illustrations etc?
I've just helped my step-father with a claim that he doesn't have any proof existed - we've just tried to be super-detailed about what he remembers of the sale, why he is unhappy about it, what he thinks was the difference between the payment for the loan and the payment for the insurance etc. The more detail the better.

You haven't said why you think if you had a policy, it was mis-sold? Be very careful as having a policy doesn't mean it was sold incorrectly, and you can't say you didn't know it was sold as you are relying on being certain it was sold to you because there's no record it existed. Make sure you quote the loan amount and term. I appreciate the desperation but you can't site your financial problems as they will feel you're looking for a get out of jail free card.

It doesn't mean you have to give up, but you have very little chance and they're not in the wrong for not keeping your records - record keeping is for your data protection, not theirs so it's important you don't get your back up about it. Your best hope is they believe you that you had and paid for a policy, that you were mis-sold it and that within their PPI policy they have a 'gesture payment' amount for any claims they can't calculate a compensation amount for. I wouldn't waste any more time arguing with them for policy numbers. Get your story down in writing and keep your fingers crossed.

I hope it works out for you and that you stay strong with your DMP. Good luck.

Probably as there were no policy numbers. There rarely is on loan PPI as it is linked under the loan account number.
I just want what I'm owed from them to pay towards that.

you are not owed anything. If you feel that they have done wrong then you make a complaint giving your reasons why you believe they have done wrong. They will look at it and decide if they agree with you or not. Depending on the strength of your complaint and what the evidence suggests, your odds really come down to that.

There is nothing wrong with having PPI. There has to be a reason for complaint.

you send them a SAR and £10 to see what info they have left - see the front page for a template.

They may not have any info, in which case your complaint is over, or they may have the account bumber, in which case you can make a complaint.

It's your £10 though, and has been said, they may have destroyed your information. You're spending £10 to take a gamble they haven't.

You need loan numbers, not PPI policy numbers.
Read through this, and ignore the part about asking for T&Cs, you need the numbers, and if you don't have them, that's why you send the SAR i.e. closed account method.

Like advised by Taff. Send £10 to them requesting SAR but be prepared to wait 40 days not including non working days.
You should get a letter confirming your request my partner did but I had to wait and then chase it up.

We had mountains of paperwork returned in staggered amounts not sent altogether as they were sent from different departments of the bank.

They went back in my case to 1990s so they do keep records spanning back some time !!

On my loan paperwork PPI was evident.

I then sent in my loan reference and my claim .

This then resulted in upholding my claim as I had good reason to complain.
