Have taken 2 hijackthis logs before and after doing anything. Comp was really slow before I did anything and I think it was MacAfee that was doing it. Seems better now but had trouble installing Malwarebytes, didn't seem to give me an option about the 14 day trial and it did slow everything down when I installed it so I've uninstalled it for now. Any ideas about installing it? Can't seem to post the hijack logs, keeps blocking my posts when I paste them in.

Is it because it's automatically inserting hyperlinks?

if it's clean with no virus
download and install ccleaner and defraggler from piriform, and revo uninstaller

use revo to uninstall mcaffee install avast free.

open ccleaner, clean the computer including hotfix uninstallers
navuagte to start up in tools, remove anything that isn't necessary. There should be 3 or 4 things starting up and that;s it.
Remove any programs that are 'pre-starting', like printers etc

remove all but the last few uninstall points

    should be faster then.

  • Thanks closed will post that when I can get back on that comp (in kids bedroom so it'll be tomorrow!)...

any ideas about malwarebytes? I mean about how to install it without the 14 day trial? It was definitely causing problems when I tried to install it before and runs much smoother without but I noticed it said it had 13 days left when I hovered over it but never saw the option not to pick the free trial...?

the trial has always been optional when I've used it, reinstall it, or just scan with it, fix anything found, then uninstall it.

Closed, will it make any difference that the OP still has McAfee installed?
  • Yes memory is a problem - not sure I can clean comp up enough to make it run without more mem

    Mem available 0.5G
Commit charge ranges from 0.5-0.8 G with a limit of 1.1G.
Don't know much but that suggests there's not a lot of space?
