Covering up marks in varnished skirting

In my head I can see what to use but not sure what they are or where to try to get it.

I've recently stripped the skirting up a set of stairs and varnished. Looks really good however there are a few places that have parts of marks in them such as paint and touching these up in a darker colour then varnish over would take less view of them. I know you'll still see it but not as obvious. Sort of a repair kit? But not those pens you ca get in poundland.

The other issue is the wall going to the skirting, as the wall has been skimmed in the past the edge is not perfect all round so I'm holding with the same thing I can go along the edge in places to make it look nice and even.

If anyone has any suggestions ?

Thanks !

    Do you mean the stringers?

Rub it back and revarnish it would be my solution.

Read that back slowly to yourself and then tell me it makes sense. :D

When you've seen that it doesn't without challenging the imagination a bit would you be kind enough to rephrase it. Ta.

Against the wall, a flexible filler would be better IMO, to allow for the movement of the wood - the poundshop ones have worked in the past for me.

'plastic wood' might work to cover the marks but finding a colour match won't be easy - a bit more effort with the sander etc might be needed?
