carers allowance and state pension

My mother and father both receive a state pension and he also gets attendance allowance.
I understand that if my mother claims carers allowance for looking after my father , then his state pension may be reduced. Could they end up worse off? (the overlapping rule)
advice please.

His state pension will not be affected in any way. State pension and carer's allowance can't both be claimed at the same time so she would still get her pension but have an underlying entitlement to carer's allowance.
