    Its probably the inverter that has gone. Google it and you can probably pick one up for around £20-£30. Replacing it should be simple, you would just remove the plastic from around the screen and normally inverters are on the bottom of the display (near to the laptop).

    Got an old monitor (or know a friend with an old monitor?). With a VGA cable - plug into laptop.
