Council Tax Benefit problems

The fact of the situation is that the council is pursuing someone with no income for Council Tax payments, and are, without any good reason, refusing to backdate any benefit claims. If I weren't here, they'd try and send my sister to prison over the arrears.
They are all pure and utter scum, and I hope one day they find themselves on the breadline to see just how vile the system is that they administer.
Hang on. What? Your sister may not have an income but without providing proof how is the council to know?! She could be sitting in a multi-million pound nest egg for all they know and you're trying to commit benefit fraud! If anyone wants state assistance I'm afraid you have to prove need. Your sister, for whatever reasons, did not take steps to prove that need therefore they can only assume she is in a position to pay her share of the council tax.
The rules are there for a reason. I myself have just been to my council with a lot of personal information about my income and current mental health problems so that I can possibly be fortunate enough to be helped by the tax payer to keep my home!
You cannot put all of the blame on the council, you sat on this for MONTHS, without a follow up call/email/further research. The first time I had to claim anything I spent days on end researching on the internet and made numerous phone calls to make sure everything was happening the way it should. I'm human and the people processing claims are human, which means it is very easy for there to be errors. If I want to ensure I get what I need and am allowed to claim I take some responsibility for ensuring it is all done correctly.0 -

So what exactly do you want to happen? That the council "forget" about your sisters' CT liability AND give you a discount? If she can't/won't pay it, then you have to! The best way to "get round" this problem is for your sister to either claim JSA or get a job!0
