It seems there are some strong feelings here about what is or is not appropriate.

Obviously my mum is mature and does not want to upset my sister which is why she is anxious and wants to make a speech that my sister is happy with. But because her natural nature is quite jokey (our family spend most of our time together laughing) she worries that she won't be able to do a good enough job. My mums aim is NOT to embarrass or upset my sister.

There is a line between some gentle ribbing and outright bullying though. Something my own father doesn't seem to understand. Making jokes at someone elses expense when you know they are being hurt is bullying. Nothing to be proud of at all.

Maybe your mum & your sister could write it together? It would be a special thing between the two of them, and your sis would be more comfortable with the content if she's been involved.

Can't she be jokey about something other than your sister?
