Car Parks that don't give change

that demand that you enter the registration number of your car. Presumably this is so that, if you cannot use the full time, it prevents you from passing that on to another person who has just arrived in the carpark. Oh no, the council has just lost 50p............
Sorry, as a late edit, The fascinating part is that these machines have the facility to enter "complex" numberplate details but cannot accept a fee amount and then return change.I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -
I once saw a car-park where it was £1.95 for 2 hours parking
Good way for the council to make an extra 5p with people being lazy and inserting £2
Better than some railway station car-parks where the P&D machines are card only (and queues build up as it takes upto 5 minutes to process each payment)0 -
Very few car parking machines ever give change.
The resolution is simple, take some with you - keep some in the car.
make a point of replacing it.
if you want to use a pay car park then you need to make sure you either have the correct change (ever been on a bus?) or be prepared to pay too much.0 -

It annoys me every time I use a local Council Car Park where the machine doesn't give change.
This means that the charge is considerably higher and to my mind, to give it the kindest spin, it becomes a donation to Council coffers or at worst is theft of the change I am due.
it would be very interesting to know how much Councils collect over and above the charge made.
cheers

My local council does this, but I reckon I have some credit as I had an IoM registered car and never paid for a ticket in two years.0 -
From a legal point of view, you have to tender the correct amount. There is no legal requirement for the seller to provide change.
Pay and Display car parks do not refund the unused part of the parking ticket either, and now they stop you passing it to someone else so they can use your 'paid for' parking time.0 -
Our local hospital - £1.90 for 2 hours. I think most people put £2 in. Too be honest I cant understand why they don't just put £2 as the charge.0

I hate when they don't give change either, same as vending machines!
Why you can't pay with card for things like car parking now is beyond me.0 -

Beats me why we can't have a national oyster type card for parking swipe as you enter swipe as you leave it deducts parking from your credit.
If people want to use a normal ticket charge them more.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -

Sounds like too much work for the councils, that'd actually give them something to do rather than sitting about.0
