Help with poor quality soil

Hi all

Wondered if some of you green fingered experts could offer me some advice please. Our garden was originally all turfed but we've had that taken up and new laid leaving about 2ft at each side for some plants. I decided to do some weeding yesterday and noticed that the soil is full of small stones, old bits of roots and just generally very poor. What would be the best way to tackle this? Should i get rid of all the stones and bits then treat the soil with something or dig it all out and get some more soil?

Thank you!

You may be surprised, small stones don't indicate poor soil quality, the opposite infact, they improve drainage.

Why don't you simply grow something and see how it fairs?

Ok, it's a lazy and unscientific view, but it costs nowt.

The answer if your thoughts are true is just to keep adding compost etc, until it is viable.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

As cyclonebri1 says, how do you know it's poor? The stones tell you nothing.

What do you want to grow in it? If it's just bedding plants. give them a try and see how you get on before resorting to expensive remedies for a problem that may not exist.
