Economy 7 times strange happenings

Hi all
I have been looking at my meter a bit more closely this week as Npower seem to be having a problem with my bills and have written to me saying that my meter reading was wrong at switchover from british gas last October.
I had ton's of problems back then but I thought it was all sorted out.

Anyway that's the background as to why I have been looking at my readings a bit more.

I have an old Economy 7 meter with 'Low' and 'Normal'
Tariffs. Even though I don't get billed for economy seven.

So I checked when The Meters switch over and I am sure during the week I checked and they switched over at 1am and 8am.
But I was mucking about in my garage last night and I noticed that the 'Normal' meter was still on at 2:30am !

I went to bed after that but I thought I would check what was happening this mornin.
Well at some time during the night it did switch to the 'Low' meter but it is now 10:30 and it still hasn't switched back to 'Normal'. This is very odd and I am wondering if my meter is dodgy?

or are the switchover times different on a Sunday?

thanks

Mike

Depends on how the time clock is set - but if you don't have E7, it is immaterial as long as both readings are used to calculate your bill (Normal+Low=Total Consumption at the standard rate).

First of all, you clearly have an economy 7 meter in the property, if your bills are showing at a single rate then you need to contact your supplier, at best they have you on the wrong tariff and your account needs to be rebilled, at worst they have the wrong meter details for your property and this needs to be updated as well.

That would be my first step, then identify which of your meter reads is moving during the day by taking a read at lets' say 2pm for your day read and see which one moves in that hour. Relay this information back to your supplier. They are currently billing you incorrectly.

Do you actually want an E7 tariff? Do you have storage heaters or an immersion heater?
If you have gas CH and DHW then you most likely don't.
Timeclocks on E7 meters are frequently hours out, and usually to the customer's advantage.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • As Macman says the timeswitch which controls the switchover times will be adrift. check the pointer at the bottom to see what time it thinks it is. You can work out what time your cheap rate will be on and off. Its always to the customers advantage as it moves the low rate into a more useable time slot than 12.30 am to 7.30 am

    Thanks all
No I don't want an economy 7 rate and I don't have one.
I just thought it strange that the change over time changed, as far as I can tell within 1 day. In other words it changed at 1 am Saturday morning but after 2:30 on Sunday Morning !
