High Replacement Cost for Edexcel GCSE Certs

My son took two GCSE's a year early. I can't find these certificates now and as one of them is English Language, I need to obtain copies.

Edexcel, on their website, say it costs £37 each to obtain copies which seems very high for pressing a couple of buttons and 'print' (I can supply all ref no's). I am on benefits.

Has anyone ever obtained copy GCSE certificates and found a way to avoid /reduced these costs?

I obviously did not scan copies into the pc.., although this probably wouldn't have helped.

  • Contact the exam officer at the school, I damaged a few of mine within a couple of months of getting them and I'm sure the school only charged £5.00 for each new cert so maybe it's cheaper if they request the copy rather then an individual.
  • Many thanks

Yes I agree copy certs cost a fortune. Ages ago I did my Maths level 2 basically just for something to do to use my brain I didn't need it as I've got gcse grade c the same thing so I didn't look after the cert.

Now I am looking for work I want to do ict level 2 but they won't let me till I prove I've got my level 2 Maths and English. I can provide English cert and gcse Maths cert but they won't accept that. A copy cert is 40 pounds I'm not paying that as I already hold the equivalent cert. I offered to do the Maths level 2 again but can't as I already have it. Therefore I can't do the ict one grrrr.

yep, am afraid all replacement certificates are expensive. I use to impress on my students not to deface or loose them as its expensive to replace and we won't foot the bill. Every year two or three would come back and request copy certs.

I started taking photocopies around with me to job interviews as one got lost and I said, originals available upon job offer!

Sorry, not a lot else you can do.

It depends what it is for. If a letter from the school on letter headed paper confirming the grades achieved would suffice then you could do that, rather than ask for actual copy certs.

He's applying for college. 4 GCSEs needed. He's got his English Lit GCSE cert but lost his English Lang certificate, got four other certs including Maths GCSE (totaling 5 GCSEs). I've got a pink Statement of Results though giving all the results of his papers (but not listing final GCSE subject results i.e. English Lang C etc).

I'm not super certain he received these certificates because he passed the exams June 2011, a year early. But they could have been mislaid somehow. I've looked everywhere I can think of and thoroughly tidied the whole house, they just haven't turned up. But how I'm supposed to pay £74 to replace them I don't know.

If you do a subject access request they have to send all the information they hold on you. It wont provide replacement certificates but it will show the grades.

I applied to uni a couple of years ago and I don't have any of my certs for GCSE or A level. I got a letter from sixth form confirming my A level grades, and did a SAR for GCSE's. I sent it to the wrong place though so didn't get the response, but uni were happy enough with just my A level results.

I'm a mature student, so maybe they were a bit more lenient, but I think that just proof of grades should be enough rather than the actual certs. So the school should be able to provide that.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

The grades are entered onto the "walled garden" but that is institution specific so I can only see grades for quals attained at the college I work at. So, we could not access grades achieved in school.

As a college we would accept a letter from the school confirming the grades achieved and the exam boards.
