unprofessional SCS
hi everyone,
I don't know if something like this has been said before on these forums. but apologies if it has I was not able to find the thread.
Anyway I went into SCS shop in Bradford, purely for browsing and had no intention of buying. I was approached by a salesman, and this person was clever with what he was doing. we were sat on a cheap fabric sofa and he pushed us over to try the lazboy leather sofa. anyway, the sofa felt ok and he start talking about dimensions. so this guy decided to get the size at least 2 seats small than what I was mentioning when I clearly told him the size of the room. so he says he knows what he is doing and we don't need the extra seats.
then he got me to sign on all the papers after the credit check went through and after signing he tells me that we cant cancel that was it the order is done, even though he did not move from the seat. the only reason I signed is to get him off my back. he don't explain any of the t and a's to me. he did not even tell me the name of the leather sofa that he is ordering. not only that he adds the insurance to the policy with out telling the price for the insurance. he also adds delivery charges with out telling me.
it does not end there, there is still more to it. the sales agent was so nervous that he wrote our contact details incorrectly. he never mention the fact that we cant cancel before signing. and after signing the papers it was too late for them.
the sales manager came up to us and all he said was how are u. which colour have you gone for and that's all from him.
the salesperson actually put down an higher income which was 3 times my salary for the credit check. the product was not explained interms of manufacturing. it all happened so quick that I was shocked. now I have a contract not to cancel when I cant even afford the damn thing in the first place. I was given the impression that I have no way out. because my credit was excepted I have to go ahead with it and that's all.
so the very next morning I ring to cancel, telling them I cant afford the payments, it Is not the product that I want, I never wanted it in the first place, I was not informed fully of the price the product, I was not told anything, so the sales manager says to me take the sofa when it comes and just don't pay for it, you don't have to pay for it will be a free sofa for you.
when I tell him I am going to cancel the finance for the sofa coz I am able to do that in 14 days he says that he WILL bankrupt me. according to him coz I have signed the papers I have no way of winning my way even in court coz it is a legal document that I have signed. the sales manager is not willing to except any of the mistakes that salesman has made at all. he just threatens me with legal action and bankruptcy. not only that the sales manager lies to me that he came and told me that this is a none cancelling contract, that is a really big lie. the have treated me with !!!! basically . they are not having any of it at all. not only that he says that I am not going to get any thing out of all this any more so my best bet is to shut up and take the sofa. he says that the order is already done, when the finance company has not even realised the funds for the sofa.
the next thing I do Is go to the shop to speak to him face to face. this time he says that I did tell you before signing that you cant cancel. not only that he says the court are on their side and I don't have a leg to stand on. going forward he says because I am not able to afford the 6k sofa he is happy to sell me the 4k sofa but not 1k which is in my budget.
I was mis informed, all the points were not made clear to me, I was pressurised into signing for some thing that i did not, and never wanted, which is not in my budget at all. not only that when I went in to the shop the salesman just blacked me out like as though he does not know me at all. the insurance policy was not explained to me for what is covered what Is not, I am learning now that ins does not cover all damages to the sofa.
Now my point is if the sofa is ordered then how can they change from 6k to a 4k sofa. the sales manger is happy to go sell me the expensive sofas but not the cheap one. why? the sales manager was not there when we were speaking to the salesperson, but he is saying that he confirmed all the things with us him self. I really feel sorry for SCS for having suck people working for them it is utter shame on them. I was also put under the impression that this is a uk manufacture when they are not.
now I am not going to stop here. I don't care what it takes but I am going to take this all the way because of the way I was treated, because of the way I was spoken to, because nothing was blamed on the sales rep by the sales manger, because I was blamed for everything, because I was held liable for they way of selling, because I was threatened with legal action and bankruptcy. I really don't care if a lose my life after this but I am going to stand up against this, because I was lied to, because I was pressurised, I am going to do what ever it takes to get to the very top of this.
PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM SCS THEY REALLY NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY.
Any advise appreciated.
thanks

he got me to sign on all the papers
If the credit agreement offers a voluntary cooling off period but the sofa doesn't you are contracted to fund the purchase a different way.the salesperson actually put down an higher income which was 3 times my salary
There is a review site that backs up your assertion that people shouldn't visit an SCS store.
http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews145677.html.
For further guidance here's the CAB details. Call them.0 -
Did you sign the contract electronically as you say the sales person did not move from the sofa?
Could you call the finance co directly and state you have read the paperwork and realise that the sales person has provided them with the wrong income figure and see whether you would still qualify because you are uncertain if this is really affordable etc.
The finance company may then refuse the credit which will then would give you some power back.
I am pretty sure that in contract law, the whole bank charges thing came about for penalty clauses so it may be that SCS could charge you for the cost of work done so far but clearly they will not have made the sofa yet etc so this should be significantly less than £7k.
It sounds as though SCS are quite used to doing this.0 -
Some people are beyond help and it sounds to me that you are one of them.
You go into a shop and buy something that you did not want, for a price that you cannot afford, using a lie to obtain credit.
Then come on here looking for a way out.
Good luck with that.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
I'm confused. The sales manager told you to accept delivery and just not pay for it. That way you would be getting a free sofa. However, if you cancel the finance he will bankrupt you.0

Signing a contract is one of life's BIG events, similar to funerals, marriages, divorce.
They are life changing things, never sign anything unless you are fully aware of the implications of doing so .Be happy...;)0 -
How did you go from browsing in a shop with no intention of buying.....to having a fraudulent credit agreement for products that you didn't want? You say you signed a contract to get him off your back?! Why not just leave the store?
Advice? Maybe don't go shopping on your own next time!0 -

sorry but how was you pressured to sign the contract to 'get him off your back?' you were in the store you could have just got up and walked out. I can understand people saying things like that when the salesmen came into their home (hence why THEY have the cooling off period).
Why did you not just leave the store?
It does sound like you have been spoken to very unprofessionally and it may be worth taking to the CAB to see if they can help.0
