My friend & I have decided to have a short break (Thursday 15th August departing Sunday 18th). He's driving up from London to collect me (I'm in the Midlands) before we go somewhere. I'm thinking of either on the coast in Wales or the Lake District (someone rural & nature bound to just escape from it all) can anyone recommend any areas & how to go about getting cheap accommodation?
Thanks
Thanks

The Pembrokeshire coast is beautiful and there are some great walks to be done along the coastal path there....some gorgeous beaches too although it was too cold to enjoy them when I was there.
We stayed in a b&b that I found searching online - it was a lovely place on a farm but sadly isn't a b&b anymore. There were plenty to choose from though and lots were quite reasonably priced - possibly a bit more expensive in August though.
If you go to Pembrokeshire I'd highly recommend the walk from St Govan's to Stack Rocks - it's an easy flat walk (if you don't take a diversion down onto any of the beaches) - and some of the best coastal scenery in the UK in my opinion.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Another vote for Pembrokeshire - we're wild, unspoilt and beautiful - and nowhere near as crowded or expensive as Cornwall.
South of the county, lovely Tenby is our only real resort if you want a little 'life', otherwise the north is totally uncommercialised with (I think!) the most magnificent coastal scenery in Britain - try looking from the tiny city of St. Davids all along the coast to Newport Parrog."I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0 -
The Llyn peninsula or angelsey. Breathtakingly beautiful!
ETA: Morfa Nefyn is fantastic - beautiful, rugged unspoilt coastline and a pub on the beach!
Skint but happy with my lovely family

North Wales is better value than the Lakes but both still have some availability0 -
Have you considered Dumfries & Galloway? Only a bit further than the Lakes but much cheaper.
We've stayed here http://www.redcastlecottages.co.uk/ and here http://www.barncrosh.co.uk/index.asp many times during the last 10 years.
Very different but both excellent depending on your requirements.Never trust a financial institution.
