Remove default from vodafone account

Hi anyone who can help me!!

I recently applied for a mortgage with my boyfriend and got declined due to a default on his credit report, this is from a couple of years ago when he was a guarantor for a "friend" who couldnt get a mobile phone contract with vodafone. This person who was supposed to a friend ran up a bill of one hundred pounds and didn't pay. My boyfriend was unaware of this but as soon as it was brought to his attention he paid the phone bill in full and cancelled the account. We have been in touch with experian and put a note on the default explaining the situation. He has called vodafone but had no luck due to not having the account number or mobile phone number.
Is there any way this default can be removed?
The person who ran up the bill is offering to have the default put onto their credit report.
I have read many posts the past few weeks on people being successful but many not!
Can anyone help me and give me some advice on what to do next anything will be so much appreciated
Thank you

Not really. As guarantor, he has the same responsibilities as his friend, and if the friend defaults he is required to pay up. However, it all hinges on when he paid up. If he settled on presentation, then Vodafone should not have defaulted him - as that is an abuse of the guarantor remit. However, if he took some time to pay, he would be treated as jointly responsible.

The Vodafone Rep might be able to assist, but you would certainly need to identify the account with anything you knew - how did he pay up, and to whom?
  • Hes a joiner and works away and isn't home every weekend so didnt get the letter straight away but as soon as he was home and received the letter from vodafone he paid them in full. (don't know exactly how long it was only approximatly a couple of weeks)
We have tried to get in touch with the friend responsible but obviously since this incident there has been little contact he says he doesnt have the phone number or account number but is willing to have the default put on their credit report as it was their fault, can this happen?
We have been saving for so long for a deposit and now can't get the mortgage all for my boyfriend helping out a friend makes me so angry!
Am I best writing to vodafone as I have has no joy over the phone?

    Hi Cet1988,

Thanks for making me aware of this.

So I can get things looked into further could you ask your boyfriend to email me with his details via the link in our profile here?

All he'll need to do is copy and paste the link into his web browser and it'll take him to the Contact us form on our website. To make sure it reaches me could he also quote the code WRT135 - MSE in the subject line?

Once sent he'll receive an automated reply with a reference number. Could you update the thread with this and I'll get back to him as soon as possible?

    Kind regards,

    Lee
