I ran a 1.9 tdi skoda fabia estate from about 3 years old to 10+ years. It was very reliable, roomy boot, great economy, nice turn of speed if required. No dpf so no issues there.

At 10+ years it started with some electrical niggles and I replaced it. TBH I still miss it and wonder if I overreacted.

I think 4k would buy something like a 2006 model.

it must be true then as it was written on the internet
It's true because several of my mates and even my Dad had two Vectras (from new) with that engine and it was terrible for reliability. Although the Insignia with the 2.0 diesel afterwards was troublefree for the 18 months he had it.

So just needlessly carrying unnecessary weight and paying more to buy and in fuel. Great plan.

was it the engine or the dpf or egr? shouldnt have a diesel with egr/dpf if your not doing the miles
got two 1.9 150's (astra and zafira) had no problems with either we removed the dpf only because we no longer do long journeys to avoid the possibility of it clogging
    any car can have problems
the rear fold down seats dont weigh alot basically a folding frame with seat material attached if your going to be worried about less than 5kg or so you better empty you glovebox of cds, maps etc and any stuff in the door cards but why stop there you may as well ditch the spare wheel and the jack too as your only carrying them around incase you need them as well

My Dad had the 120 then the 150 as company cars, was doing over 20k a year and had numerous faults with them. I remember one of the issues meant the Vectra spent three weeks with the main dealer to sort. Terrible engines.

As far as weight is concerned.
    Zafira SRi 1.9cdti 150 - 1566KG
    Astra H Estate SRi 1.9cdti 150 - 1403KG

So not only paying extra for two seats which probably wont be used much, also having to cart the equivalent weight of two adult males and it handling no where near as good as the Astra.

zafira is a bigger car much more practical than the astra estate it has nearly 50% more boot space - before even moving the centre seats forward
other advantage is the seats are higher so easier to get a baby seat in and out and much more leg room in zafira
and on the handling front its an mpv thats like saying the astra estate handles poor compared to 3 door astra sport

you clearly dont appreciate that the extra space is worth every penny the zafira boot is near enough four times the size of our astra sport

Until you start using those extra seats? ;-)
  • The new layout on autotrader should help. Boot size is important, but, bigger cars don't always mean bigger boots!

    Fabia hatchback - 290 litres
    Civic hatchback - 485
    Saab 9-3 estate - 419
    Zafira - 312
    Astra - 350
