can you recycle knackered shoes?

I have lots of pairs of shoes which are too worn out to take to the charity shop. Does anyone know if the shoe banks you get in recycling areas will take them - they ask for pairs, so I've been assuming they want decent ones they can sell on.
If not, any other suggestions to keep them out of landfill?
Thanks

Not that I have ever done it myself (cough) but I understand that there is a thriving fetish market on Ebay for worn ladies shoes ...0

Now why didn't I think of that - a whole new business opportunity opens up in front of me.
(thinks.....what else can I wear and sell..... )All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

i think traid recycling banks (at quite a lot of branches of sainsbury's) take shoes, didnt know about the pairs thing though. if you want to buy ethical shoes i got some really stylish ones from terraplana in SE1 theyre made from recyled tyres and mens suits but turn out surprisingly nice0

Clarks have a recycling bin for shoes for charity.
My local clothing bank takes clothes and shoes so I take them there! We may not think there okay anymore but someone well really benifit from them
(I have ds school shoes and a pair of trainers waiting to go!)it costs nothing to smile:D0 -
As mentioned clothing banks usually take them, and as Moneybubbles said, Clarks, and I believe Shoe Express, have bins that you can put old shoes in for re-use.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

Tesco have banks for old shoes.
I can't help but notice someone bought a pair of used trainers from that Ebayer which clearly had holes right through them and stated so in large letters in the description and then left her a neg saying the were rubbish! lolDream of being mortgage free....
