My wife (only) has type 2 and she is checked every 4 weeks by the Nurse, every 8 weeks by the Doctor, bloods every 8, feet every 4, weight every 2 and a Retinopathy eye test every year.

How on earth a type 1 is see once a year makes one's head itch

Then your wife is one of those that has the care and attention that DiabetesUK say is appropriate.

Self checking is quite easy if you follow the guidelines on their website.

Your GP practice appears to have someone that deals with Diabetes full time, and a GP that has time on his hands.
Apart from the annual eye test, which is carried out by a charity, nothing else is done for me.

You seem surprised that other people don't get the same care as your wife does - welcome to the real world!
