Credit card for 19yr old

My son has been in the army coming up 3 years and is now based in Germany although he is still on the electoral roll in the UK.
He wants a credit card which would just be back up for emergencys.
He has a Premier account at the Halifax and an overdraft there, plus a Santander account.
Are there any credit cards which are easier to get than others as if he gets declined, he probably won't get any other credit due to his age.
£100 - £10,000

He is probably most likely to get a card with Halifax as he has an existing relationship with the bank and has a premium account, so they know that he has regular income, etc. His age shouldn't be an issue, but he may be given a low'ish amount of credit. I applied for a Barclaycard when I was 18 and was accepted for a £500 limit, which was enough for me at the time.

I would advise applying for a Halifax credit card in a branch. When I applied for a Halifax credit card online, I had issues and was declined, but my credit card application was immediately accepted when I went into the branch.

Thanks for that, I will let him know.
I had an issue with the Halifax, I had a cardcash account for 10years and never bothered to upgrade it, when I eventually did try they wouldn't let me (not sure why, I managed my account well).
Yet when I went to Santander they let me open a full account no problem. I assumed that I had a better chance of a full account with the Halifax as they knew me, so I wasn't sure that the fact that Halifax know him, would actually go for him at all.

  • My 19 year old tried his bank 1st as he has current account and an ISA they said he wouldnt be offered one at this time..without applying for one checked their system...he did try Tesco and got an instant decision for £600
First step for him to get some credit history..
  • Sorry just have to have a little giggle here - army 19yr old - credit card - just for emergencies - yeah pull the other one.

    I speak from experience LOL
