just to throw another angle in...before you remove a souce of heating to the room check that there is a working radiator in the room and that it is adequate to give sufficient heat.
Good point. Although there are two radiators in the room as well, so I can't see that being an issue in this particular case to be honest.

    Hi all,

When looking at houses to buy I find many with 'feature fireplaces' like this one:

The thing is that while the fireplaces may look pretty they are invariably exactly where I would want to be placing my TV and HiFi. Does anyone have any experience of having a feature fireplace removed, and be able to give me some idea of what it might cost to do so?

    Thanks.

What I can't stand more than anything is those horrible ugly pelmets over the curtains!!!!! So 80s..........

Not if you are trying to find a Corgi registered gas fitter, there is no such thing nowadays.

I think you'll find searching CORGI leads to the new register....and either way my point was get someone who's qualified.

Good, but it helps if you get your facts right.

Yep, i'll make sure in future that i google to see whether qualified persons have been moved over to a slightly different list. We don't want to run the risk of people getting a dog turn up to do their gas for them do we?
  • It cost us a horrible amount of money to reinstate two big stone fireplaces; our house had been empty for 20 years and they'd been pinched - along with many of the flagstones.

    Just saying. ;)

  • I feel like weeping when I watch progs like Homes Under the Hammer and some numpty has ripped out all the Victorian fireplaces in a period property for no other reason I can see than to get rooms looking like boxes.
