Partition / backup scheme - windows 7 home premium

I have a new pc, 2 TB* drive, and Windows home 7 premium. What would people suggest for partitioning and backup strategies.

I currently have Windows installed on a 100GB partition (C:), there are two hidden system partitions totalling about 200MB, and there is one partition for the rest (E:).

I assume its sensible to keep applications and application data separate? And then there will be things like photos and mp3s etc. Any suggestions?

*Since when is 1850 GB equal to 2 TB?

backup the lot to external drive using disk imaging software http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx, and keep multiple copies from different times, and create a macrium boot cd.

difference in size is largely down to how disk manufacturers define GB https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terabyte

if 100Gb is enough for windows and programs that you expect to install, just stick your data/photo's/mp3's on the large empty partition
