When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important
:money:

Morning everyone  I hope you're all well & the sun is shinning wherever you are!

Sorry I'm not around much anymore, just never have time! Things going well though. sorry to hear that there's still no news on the job front alley x

Ok things for this weekend:

* checked banking - all ok
* reconciled ss with bills and GC for the this month
* get receipts off of oh for anything he has spent from joint acc & update ss
* have done one load of washing & hung out and another is in the machine
* need to look through freezer/cupboards and put together a meal plan
* Mrs flaylady front room & bathroom - slowly making my way through the house!
* get oh to take old pipes to tip
* going for a walk with dgd later - will take a pack lunch to stop myself spending money & snacking
* go visit ex-mil in a bit
* calling in to see a friend who has just had a baby this afternoon
* all meals from stores
* continue with dgd's patchwork quilt

Ok think that is loads!

Have a lovely weekend x

    Morning,

Thank goodness it's the weekend. Phew! Today will be dedicated to some R&R.

    The List:

:) Credit card company have refunded me £7.20 plus £5 compensation they took after advising on the phone me they would be taking £3 and then taking £13.20. They should have said 3% not £3. I thought the advice was wrong at the time of the call, as I used to work for this bank, but I thought maybe things had changed since I'd left, til I got the bill. Dispute resolved in less than 6 hours!

:) Check for missing elec/gas bill. Nope.

:) Danced with joy as we got a letter saying our Housing Benefit is being re-instated at last. Need to totally re-do spreadsheet as it's coming in 3 weeks later than normal. A month ago I notified them that I thought we were being paid too much. On the phone they said they'd just deduct the overpayment from future payments; then they totally stopped our benefit altogether for four weeks while they re-calculated our entitlement. :( It almost made me wish I hadn't been so honest because it's given us a real financial headache and we now won't be paid on 15th Aug but on 9th Sept. Then again, we potentially have four job interviews next week and perhaps then we can ditch these dreaded benefit payments.

:) Deep cleaned all keyboards/keypads in the house before they are so gunky they stop working. Yuk. :undecided

:) Give the washing machine it's yearly deep clean: scrub the rubber seal and the drawer with sterilising fluid and a mid-weight wire brush and then run a (rare) boil wash with vinegar, lemon juice and bicarb. Didn't buy "Dr Beckmann's Service It" cleaner at £2.99 a shot. Worse than I thought, had to get the mini steam cleaner out, and spent an hour with my head in the drum. It smells great now, though. Steam cleaned the dish drainer as well.

:) Picked miniature flowers from the garden to fill a vase. Free flowers and fragrance.

:) Took part in the Big Butterfly Count at home. Free entertainment. (Link)

:) Turn off electric alarm clock during the day.

:) Practice typing using free online website in readiness for next week's job assessment. (Link)

    Morning all

Not much going on here this weekend - thought we were having a day trip to Tatton Park today but OH not feeling too good so just going to stay local - hopefully means it'll be a NSD though which it wouldn't have been, might be able to make my 4 in a row for the NSD challenge!

Pub with friends tomorrow lunchtime but will try not to spend too much, have budgeted £10.

    My things for today:

    :) Check banking, all ok
:) Collect special delivery letter - what could it be?! Bet it's boring.
:) BLD and snacks from stores, sausage casserole already made for lunch
:) Await a few more collectors from stuff sold on FB group - up to £64 now!
:) Check Ebay sales finishing tomorrow
:) Birthdaybingo, Freepostcodelottery, Swagbucks and InstaGC

I think that's everything. Have happy DFW days all.

  • Hi all!

Newbie here so bear with me if this is all wrong! :)

Trying to have a MSE DFW day today as things really need to change and there's no time like the present, so planning things as follows:

 Wash up instead of using the dishwasher - minimal amount of washing up liquid of course - to save some money on the electric.

 Not buying loads of junk to eat (as it is so easy to do at the weekend), but eating from "stores" (if that basically means the cupboards?) instead.

 Fill up the car at the local supermarket (works out cheaper overall, even when taking into account other supermarkets loyalty points).

 Using up the beauty products that I already have, that are already open, instead of buying more, or opening my sealed ones and wasting them (as they'll go funky).

 Resisting the temptation to have the air con on when out in the car, when it's not really that hot, and the windows or normal fan will do the trick. :o

 Making the most of our online film subscription where we got three months for the price of one, which is all paid up till October.
    :T

 Making the most of our TV subscription, which we are tied into for a year, because we got such a brilliant loyalty discount to tempt us to stay (which was painstakingly considered before deciding).

 Check the household budget to make sure everything is in order in the accounts and on the spending front.

 Return our broken toaster to receive a cool £19.97 refund which is currently just sitting in the boot of the car. :o

That's all I can think of right now but I'm sure I'll be back. :D

  • Bought myself an RFID proof sleeve, for my Pre-Paid Mastercard, which happens to also be a "Tap and Pay" card.

    Hi there

I'm crocheting a dishcloth because I noticed we were out and I remembered I had some dishcloth cotton in my stash.

    Cleaning round and tidying round

Night in with OH - making most of the L0vefilm subscription we keep meaning to cancel - but it is saving us from buying box sets.

Continuing with the clear out - have finished bathroom - onto back bedroom now...

Called mum with free wknd mins rather than calling yest.

    xxx
  • Bought 10 pairs of work socks, for just £5.
