Changing locks on Double Glazing

Hi All

Think his should be simple enough , the peope we are buying off , have `lost` all the window keys , some of the windows are to the kids bedrooms so i need to get this sorted quickly after moving in , is it simple enough , just buy some more handles with locks built in and just swop out?

You could buy locking handles which are an easy swap; but for ventilation you could also add lockable opening restrictors so window can open but kiddies can't fall out.

Obviously, need to think about what to do if there was a house fire.

    I've bought from http://www.handlestore.com/

Yes, as per the bold bit, 2 a penny to be honest, ebay is your friend.

I'll qualify that, the lock in a typical pvc window catch is a pretty simple affair, secure is an over exaggeration, ebay sourced units are similar quality.

I did look at the link by the previous poster, unsure what he bought, with most windows the vent position is by a standard locking handle in the semi closed or vent position
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • Quick search finds many replacement key co's

This is one of 'em, just send them a photo of the handle.

    Window Locks

Only a small hand full of window locks use code series keys. If your lock does have a key number it will only be stamped on the key. If there is no number please send us a photo of an existing key or a up close image of the handle like below, so we can identify what key you require.

I tried this. Emailed a picture of a handle to which they replied with the key that would fit.

    It didn't!

I assume if they can't identify it they just have a guess.

I was only after keys for insurance purposes so haven't bothered since but personally I'd go for new handles. Cheap enough to buy from eBay and look simple enough to fit.

I don't think my old thread would have anything useful for you but just in case https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3844727
