Car insurance payout issues

My car was hit a while back the person who hit it agreed to pay cash to avoid insurance claim . He didn't pay me so I went down the insurance claim route they issued a cheque yesterday that I will recive next week. This evening the man who hit my car knocked on my door and handed me some cash I said I didn't want it as I have started the insurance claim . He told me to take it and basically said it was his fault he should have paid earler as promised and to keep it any way . What should I do

tell him he is not to contact you again and everything is going to be dealt via insurance. if he wants to protect his no claims he can pay his insurance company the amount they are liable which will keep his no claims intact.

i wouldn't advise to take the cash

are you sure? Did he put it through the wrong door ?Could you identify him in a line up? I bet he doesn't have a receipt etc.

I take it that his insurance are paying out not your own. Is the car written off? Seems strange otherwise that it is a cheque not a repair.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
