Direct Debit paid but not showing on Halifax

I set up 2 direct debits to pull in money from a Halifax reward account to 2 Tesco accounts and each have paid into the Tesco accounts but nothing has been deducted from the balance of the Halifax account and it still shows as no direct debits. Will this update at a later date?

That's unusual. Are you sure you have entered the correct sort code and account number?

    Yes, it's a linked account.

What date did you set them up for? 10th, 11th?

DDs often work like a 'promissory note', ie Tesco know it's coming so allocate the funds before 'value date'.

I set up the direct debits for today, the 9th, but only a few days ago.

Are these set to remove your free fiver automatically (as mine are)?

If so, and you don't have an overdraft or don't keep any funds in there, then you might be better selecting a later date, being as the Reward can be paid as late as the 10th according to the T&Cs.

If it's your main account then ignore the above!

And Halifax may only count the two DDs as one for Reward purposes. It's said they want to see two different originator numbers.

I've never tried setting up a regular monthly payment at Tesco, but with one-off payments against a new instruction it's been my experience that they re-date them 10 days ahead. This only changes when the paying bank confirms that the mandate is in place.
"It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis
  • I have a halifax reward account and i sent a faster payment on thursday, the moeny has been deducted from the available balance but not showing on the recent transactions. Also, a DD was due on friday to 02 the DD is showing as being paid on my 02 account but the funds are still in my available balance. Maybe something is wrong with there systems?
