No coverage for pre-existing conditions at all. Not quite sure what percentage of the population that rules out?
Best thing is you can't even pay extra for coverage. So how many people find this out and think sod it and take the chance anyway?
Sounds like a good deal getting free travel insurance with home insurance but it looks like you're not getting a lot here.
Awful....

Even with normal travel insurance you may get an option to exclude a pre-existing condition or pay extra to cover it.
My other half has an overactive (or maybe underactive) thyroid. She is happy to travel with this excluded as it is highly unlikely to need treatment during a holiday. The insurers are aware of the condition though so cover otherwise applies.
It will be crazy to travel with an exclusion for certain conditions but hopefully that is the minority of people.0 -

Thats my point. I appreciate you should pay extra and would so so.
Direct Line don't offer this option, its just not covered at all ever.
Hmmm. Not sure its wise to travel with something excluded though.0 -
sometimes you have to, with thyroid this is not likely to need hosp treatment so low risk, We struggled to get travel insurance this year due to hubby's heart attack but definitely needed a policy to cover that. Direct Line was out for us , shame as I trust them.0

Depends on what it is. With a lot of conditions, you could probably travel home as normal and get treatment at home. Obviously certain conditions it wouldn't be wise.0 -
I disagree. If you've got a medical condition that may cause problems (unless something minor of course) then you'd be crazy to travel without coverage.
In my wifes case, its asthma. Chances are 1 in a million that anything will happen but, of course, what would happen if she did have an attack when we on holidays in the USA?
Could be a very expensive hospital stay at the very least.0 -

This of cause is the key part and really you need to quantify it in terms of scale of the potential problem. There are many conditions that have many long term potential issues but little to no short term ones even if not medicated properly.
As to the OP - almost any add on policy is a watered down version in comparison to standalone. In many cases Breakdown as a standalone product gives you the option of insuring the vehicle or the people where as almost all insurers only offer vehicle cover when added to Motor0 -

But surely you're gambling then? I want insurance that covers me even in the extremely unlikely event so I don't have to worry about it.0 -

I would argue that all of life is a bit of a gamble and so it is all dependent on what level of risk you are willing to take. My medical condition would be considered "serious" (depending on your definitions) and is congenital but has never caused me to take a single day off sick, never taken me to the doctors beyond initial diagnosis as a toddler and routine annual checkups ever since.
My travel insurance has been bundled with other financial products for years. Some have been happy to cover me as is and so the conditions been covered. Some have wanted to charge up to £150 extra each year. So over ten years its £1,500 saved which I'd rather put to another holiday.0 -
In my case (or my wifes) its something that has caused her to be hospitalised in the past 12 months so not something I want to risk to be honest.0

I think you are actually agreeing with me.0
