Want Easy Wavy Tousled Hair Cheap :)

Hi Guys,

I have long (layered-ish) thick hair, and want a tousled, wavy sexy look, but I just dont know what to buy to get it.

I tried V05 tousled spray and that made it crispy. Does anyone else have any better ideas? Ideally I'd want to do it and not have to wash my hair the next day.

I just think it looks so cute! My hair also does look great when wet and drying, but then I brush it and it goes, so even general advice would be great.

Thank you :)

  • I want to know too!!:D

I have thick hair - ages ago I tried a sort of curling wand thing - although it did make my hair curly it took ages to curl each little section - maybe 2 hours  and even with heaps of hair spray fell out over the evening.

I wonder if GHDs are the answer? I have seen friends hair look lovely but their hair was thin so propably easier to curl as would have less sections to curl.

I love my hair when its scrunched after washing but as it dries looks like I've been tragged through a hedge!

    Me too! Me too! :j

Mine looks great mid-dry phase, but anything after that...??

DD2 has poker straight (but very fine) hair. A couple of times recently shes basically twisted small sections of hair into a long thin strip, then ran the straighteners over it briefly (I think that's what she's done anyway!! lol) She brushes it out after and it gives a gorgeous soft look. Wavy, not curly.

Yeah, the wand thing totally sucks with thick hair. It took me hours too and they fall out so easily, even with an obscene amount of product. I bought some heated rollers by babyliss and thy are great for special occasions, but is very wavy although takes 10 minutes to put them in, 30 minutes to heat and then off you go after hair sprayed up :-)

GHD's again take ages for hair like mine (I have thick hair and lots of it), so if you are the same then it may not be the solution.

I want to digital perm my hair to a wave, but looks REALLY pricey x
  • Long layers, salt spray, rough scrunching blowdry and don't brush it once it's dry :)

I have tousled layers, it doesn't always look perfect but it has bounce :)

salt spray (doesn't make my hair crispy, I have short layers and it emphasizes my natural wave).

If you have long hair, plait it in 2 or more plaits before you go to bed at night and sleep in them (or try bendy rollers, or rag roll your hair).

If you have to use a brush at all on your waves, use one with vents. Best thing is not to use a brush, but finger-separate your waves then use salt spray then a hairspray to set the wave.

My DD has long wavy hair which curls into the cutest ringlets when damp, she doesn't blow dry her hair, but she does the plaits every night before bed, and we've tried the salt spray and bendy rollers on her hair, it definitely works for her to emphasize her curls :).
  • Salt spray is awesome :D and I've found the cheaper one (Studio Line? In the round bottle) to be better than the expensive ones!

thats the one we use - the Studio Line one, Boots often have good deals like bogof on it too :D.
  • I bought the Charles Worthington one first - £9.95 a bottle *eek*

It's rubbish. Thankfully I found the Studio Line one fairly quickly :)

The british curlies website is quite good if you have curly hair and are trying to figure out how to manage it.

    Useful tips
    Don't brush
Wrap your hair very carefully after washing it, don't rub etc
    Let it dry naturally
    Don't touch unless absolutely necessary

I find that letting it dry in the sun really makes the curl come to life.

The other great tip from my hairdresser was to use a tiny bit of conditioner as a curl cream after washing and just finger brush through before wrapping in a towel. Works well for me.

Oh and to sleep with my hair up to protect the curl.

There are some great youtube videos as well, try out sockbun if your have properly long hair.

I did like the frizz ease hair serum when I was just transitioning to curly but I don't need it any more, the conditioner does the job well.

It's all trial and error for what works on your hair though!

My hairdresser also recommended salt spray for this effect. I bought some Superdrug Own Brand at £2.99.
