    Nah, the terms say
....We consider valuables to be items composed of precious metal or precious stones, jewellery, watches, furs, curios and works of art, computer equipment, money or portable electrical equipment other than televisions or radios. The most we will pay for valuables within the home is £15,000. If they are not specified on your certificate of insurance we will pay up to £2,000 per item......
which by my reading says that radios aren't counted as portable electrical equipment and so don't qualify as valuables and hence are subject to the £5k unspecified limit for non valuables rather then the £2k limit for unspecified valuables.
  • Can the OP not just give us the make/model of this supposed 'radio'? It certainly seems expensive for a radio - £4500? This would certainly raise my eyebrows and I would be questioning the specific use of such an expensive item. An expensive item such as this usually does indicate some form of professional/business use. I suspect this item is not portable and not necessarily a radio (although it may have some form of radio functionality).

    Thats my interpretation too.

I just needed a second opinion. As the radio is not a valuable it is subject to the £5k limit.

I'm struggling to see how a radio can cost £4,500 - even a professional studio one. Does it do anything other than receive/transmit radio signals? They may be trying to claim that as it is more than a radio (if it does more than just radio functions - e.g it's also a network music player - e.g something like this) it is actually portable electrical equipment and the item item wouldn't be considered a radio.

Seeing as it has 'just gone missing' I presume it is portable?
