Thanks. Ive just found a number. Gave them a ring they are going to look for me and give me a ring back within 2 weeks. hopefully they can shed some light. Although I wasn't born I would also like to know for my self I never had a granddad. And my gran died when I was ten or eleven so wasn't old enough to realise I would need to ask her although I doubt she would have told me. She was a lovely woman but I think she was deeply affected when her husband died. She was suppose to marry marry someone who was healthy and wealthy and was going to war but she didn't love him. She went against her family and married my granddad who was poor and had massive health problems with his heart. I rang the largest crematorium in the city where most of my family was buried and cremated. so fingers crossed because she said she would check lawnswood but I don't know what other he would be buried at.

That's so sad, Hannah. I never knew either of my real grandads either. It's so moving that your grandma married for love, I just wish it had worked out to be a happier ending for them both.

My maternal granda died when my mum was a baby and my grandma never married or even "courted" (as dating was known back in those days) anyone else ever again. She said that she had already known the love of her life and would never want anyone else.

I do hope your search is successful. Please update us to let us know.

I am very pleased today. I found Him. we have been up to see him.
It felt like fate, I rang a place over a month ago and they informed me they would search but they don't normally do it as its not the right department. I gave them the year and they said they get intouch within 2 weeks. Heard nothing, Finally got round to ordering death certificate, Took me over an hour to work out what the gro index was and to find it which apparently makes it quicker to come. It came Saturday. The lady rang me back today which was a pleasant surprise as I thought they had forgot or something. she told me that there was no records for ccertain dates and years, I Told her that I had the exact date of death and she said I have cremation dateabase up inn front of me ill just search now. It came straight up. She said she would get all the details on one page and ring me back which she did. Then I came up with the elobrate plot that a volunteer group had printed me off some remembrance book pages and I need to get them. drove right up to the plot. Had to coax her out of the car. She couldn't believe it even when I told her I still had to tell her a second time. So I got a picture and now I can go up when ever we want. Next april is the 60th anniversary since he died. so its nice that I managed to find out where he is in time for that.

Terribly sad but incredibly happy at the same time - well done, you!

  • Aw, Hannah, that's absolutely fantastic. You are such a lovely person to have done this.

Must confess to shedding a few tears when I read your update. I'm really glad that you managed to find him. I bet your nan couldn't believe it when she finally got to say her goodbye to her dad.

I'm really pleased to see you got an answer (and quickly too!) Must have been emotional (in a good way though) for both you and your Nan.
