I know that all you techies will know this but for those that dont I think this may be of benefit.
I just found out something that has been causing all sorts of problems with my accessing the 'net.
In IE go to Tools and disable ALL of the add-ons.
That's all.

Some of those addons are needed depending on system config.. Like the online viewing of PDF files or playing embedded video with Media player..0

Not sure if you need the add-on to view PDF. Haven't tried it yet but didn't think so.
