If you moved in April and your rent is £85 per week then this sounds like nothing has been paid since you moved in

Yes, you can appeal the decision not to backdate your JSA claim but you will have to show that you were available for and actively seeking work throughout the period that you want backdating - this is a requirement for entitlement to JSA.

You should also speak to the HB department and establish what decisions have been taken and whether you are able to challenge these. You should also put in a new claim for HB and seek backdating based on the grounds that you were told that your HB would switch to your new address by an officer of the HB department.

That would be secondary to the good cause decision, I'm not seeing good cause

I think you are getting very confused and this comes from a lack of knowledge/understanding of the benefit system. You need to start doing much reading about who is entitled to what. Reading posts here for a start will help.

I am far from an expert, but the key part to your problem is that you seem to think that you can still apply as a single parent. You cannot. The fact you now live with your partner means that everything you apply for will be joint. That means that it shouldn't be left for you to sort everything out and that he should be involved as much as you. You need to go and speak to the agencies together.

Is your partner claiming anything? Is he receiving loans for his studies (if so, he should have applied claiming he has a partner to support).

To be honest, it sounds like your lack of knowledge (and to be fair, at your age, more like support from your partner, family, or any helping agency) means that you're full claim is a mess. I would make appointment to the CAB, go with your partner and gather every single piece of paper that you have. Have you got your mail readdressed to your new address? If not, is it possible to see if anything was sent at your old one?

    I agree wit FBaby.

It is extremely difficult to help because we do not know the time lines and what you were receiving when and why.

It is entirely possible that you would have been receiving Income Support whilst your partner was at college but then he was also working and then stopped working......

The one part that is understandable is that your HB and CTB would have been stopped as soon as your other benefits stopped - hence the overpayment.

    You need help.

Look for your nearest CAB which has a Welfare and Benefits specialist (you can look on their website). Take any paperwork about benefit awards including bank statements and wage slips. Take your tenancy agreement.

Before you go try to write down the dates of what happened when e.g.

Jan 2012 - left home - lived with..... claimed... and so on.

This will help CAB get to the bottom of things more quickly.

Also they will be able to make telephone calls to the different benefit offices on your behalf and find out what has been happening.

You need help asap because of the threat of a court summons for the rent arrears.

Try not to worry too much because it sounds as if lots of mistakes have been made but they can get it put right and if there is any money to be paid back CAB will help you do this by making a repayment plan.
