amazon gift card...

So, i used a gift card to purchase an item, and they took the payment from my debit card anyway.
On the online chat i've been told to wait for the postman and tell him not to deliver it, then they'll refund me whenever they see it back, and i can buy it back again on gift card... no apology, no acceptance of they are to blame!
I've asked to complain, but if i want a reply i need to write them a letter, no manager to speak to at all.
Also, i've explained this twice as the first agent 'left the conversation'
NOT HAPPY
Anyone else had this?

I found Amazon customer service, awful to deal with, so much so, I just closed my account down.
Sounds like you can do one of two things.
1/ Follow what they say and in that case, they probably have up to 28 days to refund you.
If you haven't already, I would make sure that conversations are downloaded or emailed to you, as to what is said. You do not want to be charged some sort of return postage fee, if they treat it as a change of mind.
or alternatively
2/ If you are going to purchase something else from Amazon at a later date, then why not just accept the goods and use the gift cards at a later date.
Even if you need the money in your account, it is unlikely you are going to see it for at least a week or so.
If you go for the second option, you might want to remove card details from the site, then if you use the gift card, they won't be able to make the same error again.0
