Background verificaton check for work

Hi folks I was recently offered a new job which is subject to a Background verification check. Now I know I dont have a criminal record but my credit rating is not great from when I was younger. I dont have any CCJ's and I have never been made bankrupt either. I checked my rating last night on Noddle and it is currently sitting between poor and fair.

Thing Is I pretty much need to hand in my notice to my current employer ASAP but I dont want to do that with this check still hanging over my head. Would hate to end up with no job at all.

Does anyone know about these checks ans how stringent they are? And With how I have explained my current rating above, does anyone see this as a problem?

I very much appreciate any feedback on this matter

Thanks

Where is the job, is it working in financial services / banks? If so no matter how tempting it is to hand in your notice wait until the check comes back and you have a solid offer.
  • Yeah it is financial. I'm not dealing with money directly but I would be dealing with pensions etc....

Hang on, there have been instances where if you've had a bad credit history they change their minds after doing the check.

    Be careful
  • But waiting creates another problem with my current employer needing more notice.
  • Thanks for the advice! I have pretty much decided to to hang on myself anyway. I guessing this check will be done quickly as they want me to start work there in 2 weeks

Your new employer should understand that they should make a firm offer before you can put in your notice. To do so just opens you up to being jobless should the offer fall through.
