Travel insurance after spinal surgery...

Options
Hi all,

I am going on Holiday in 3 weeks time and need to get travel Insurance sorted.
I am worried that I will either not get insurance or have to pay huge amounts for it as I had my spine decompressed and fused June last year, it has left me in pain and with mobility problems hence being registered disabled.
Does anyone know any companies I can get insurance with under these circumstances??

Many thanks

I'm sorry to say you are correct to worry. You really should have looked at insurance costs before booking. Why didn't you?

Try the spinal injuries association. Lots of these types of associations have no doubt had the same question asked before and will hopefully have done a lot of the legwork for you.

Many specialist travel insurers will cover spinal compression (I just checked one online) but a lot depends on factors such as: your age, where you are going, for how long, whether it is just the back or the neck, what medication you take, your height and weight. A quote I did (2 weeks to France for an under 50) came out at less than £20.00 (twice that for America) but that made some assumptions. - but if you are awaiting further medical examination for your problem then the premium more than doubles.

I'm going to Spain for 9 nights only. I am on a lot of medication and having physiotherapy but the operation I had itself has done what it was meant to do.....unfortunately I have just been left with nerve damage hence the mobility issues.
I think I shall call a few insurers up.......I have been thinking I would have to pay in excess of £60 so anything less than that would be a god send really.

Scrap that, just went on confused.com and declared my conditions and treatments and it has come back at around £80 for myself and my son to be covered - I guess thats not so bad...would rather be covered than not! And in repsonse to "looksguywalker" I didn't look at it before booking my holiday because I always had the intention of being insured wherever I was going......I wouldn't not go on holiday because of this so I don't see your point?
