Yay for Dyno-Rod and my wife!

This forum does not have enough 'yay's' in it so I thought I would add one!

My main drain got blocked, and to make matters worse in trying to fix it myself I lost four drain cleaning rods and a masher down there. After much general panicking about having to dig the drive up, my lovely wife suggested I make a hook attached to the remaining rods and hook out the lost pipes - which surprisingly worked.

At this point, covered in my family's excrement I had a shower (not really caring that this added more water to the problem) When I was clean enough to use the computer I then booked in Dyno Rod who for a very reasonable £86 jet washed out the blockage.

I have learned that Dyno Rod are very nice, cheap people who can solve problems I really should not tackle myself. I also learned that at least one of my sons uses way to much toilet paper and will need some kind of training in this matter.

Yes they are very helpful. We have a similar issue about 6 years ago ( we had insurance to over this) called insurance and then sent our Dyno-Rod. they fixed the issue in no time and then told us we would keep getting the same issue as the way the drains have been laid in our street, but rather than keep getting onto insurance he suggest we go to a local air hose fabricators and get a length of hose with a jet wash attachment and a rotating end with pin holes ( cant remember the exact names for these now) and when it blocks again, just attache the hose to a jetwash and feed through the drain. I think in the 6 years we have used this twice on the main drain, but it does come in handy when the drain under the house downpipe gets blocked

We added plumbing cover to our Gas CH cover with British Gas and when our drains were blocked they sent out Dyno Rod. They were pretty good, as I recall. Well worth the extra £2 or £3 a month it cost to add the plumbing onto the gas contract.

Oh and I also had to re-educate my son in the art of bum wiping.
