new car + scrapping old car

hello all

I need some advice, I have just got a new car (well new for me it still old!!) I still have my old car it is going to be scrapped but at the mo I have parked it on the in laws drive. I thought that i just SORN it but having tried to do that on the gov website it telling me that it can't find the cars details... can you only SORN a car when the tax is due??

What do I do?? My insurance has now changed to the new car, we go away on Saturday and now am worried that it wont be sorted before then..... help please.....

You need ( for peace of mind) to get rid of the car legally , within the next 24 hours. You can't drive it , no insurance.

So ring round the car breakers and find one which will collect ( straight away) , and give you all the paper work . It would be easy if you had a few days , but is it possible in a few hours???
  • You can sorn a car any time you want.

    https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/app/sorn?execution=e1s1

You need the v5c reference number and the registration number as you dont have a reminder (as it's not due).

Then go away and enjoy yourself, get rid of the car when you come back.

Rubbish. You can legally SORN the car for a week, a year, a decade in fact as long as you want, there is no rush to get shut of it.
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.

If tax is not due, then presumably it has valid tax on it. You'll want to have this refunded.

    Here you are:

It allows you to declare SORN too as part of the refund procedure :)
