Boot Problems and crashing

Hope to get some answers from the very knowlegeable tech experts on here.
Desktop computer was sent over from son in Thailand as a present. Not new, but fairly up to date.
It has a Asrock Fatal1ty motherboard, with 8 Gb ram and 2 hard drives.
Just recently it has sometimes failed on the boot sequence and will not open W7. The debug code was A2, but pressing escape or enter sometimes booted it. Today it crashed again, but with the code A3.
Managed to get into it again and changed the boot to the second drive, which I think has a windows VHD on it, but may be wrong.
Using it now, but do you think the original C drive has given up, or have you any other suggestions?
