Best e-mail account?

Can anyone help me. I want to use Freecycle and/or Craigslist, possibly buy/sell on e-bay as well but don't want any problems with spam or nasty people. (I'm just having a spring clean at home - nothing dodgy!)
What's a good e-mail account to have or should I have several? Don't you have to give an existing address before you get a new one?
Thanks

i use one account for freebies and the other for personal emails.
i have set it up so that every time i get an email in the freebies account it forwards the mail to my main account0
