My netbook power supply does not work, can anyone help me?

Hello,
I have a Netbook Asus EEEPC 1015PN. Suddenly the power connection does not work properly anymore. When the power is plugged in, it blinks as it connects and disconnects all the time. The monitor also shows “battery mode” and “power supply mode” in a rapid change, as if it connects and disconnects all the time.
When I try to move the jack or the cable, nothing changes. Obviously the netbook does not charge, so the battery level is getting lower and soon I will be unable to use the netbook any more.
Might there be some expert who can help me with this problem?
This is my only computer and I need it for work. Since I am a student I do not have a lot of money to bring the netbook to a repair service.
I would be very grateful if anyone could help me!

the power supply unit then this is the type thing you need http://www.amazon.co.uk/1015PN-Netbook-Adapter-Charger-Supply/dp/B0055G5X0Q
to test the old one you need some one with a test meter .... can you ask round in your uni the electronics dept or computing dept will have one.
If the unit is OK its prob a mother board connection fault and than means sending it off ....... try the first bit and ask for more help if needed.
you may have to access the site via a phone ot ask a friend to use theirs......

Do you know anyone with the same netbook whose power supply you could try? That way you can diagnose whether it's the power supply or the netbook. Or someone with a multimeter who can test the power supply.
If it is the supply, you can buy new ones on ebay etc - it just has to have the same connection and provide the same voltage.0 -
I guess the first step would be to see if the problem is with the netbook, the battery or the charger.
Do you know anyone else with an Asus EEE whose charger and/or battery you could borrow? Or do you have a multimeter to test the voltage output (and stability) of the charger and battery?
If it's the netbook itself that's faulty, I don't think there's much you would be able to do yourself to fix it yourself... probably best to have it repaired professionally...
Just a thought, but if you're at university, do you know anyone in the engineering department? They should be able to test the output of the charger and battery, and might even have some basic PC repair skills. A lot of techies love to help people and/or fix broken stuff, so might enjoy an extra-curricular challenge... especially if you sweet talk them and offer them a beer or two!
EDIT: D'oh! You all beat me to it!0 -
Is there anybody here in this forum who lives in London and is a pc-freak who is so kind as to help me repair my netbook for a little fee? :-)
I would really appreaciate it!
By the way.
I have just noticed that the led-lamp of the charger (powersupply) fluctuates.
I can even hear near "there where the cable is plugged at the notebook" a tick, tick, tick, tick with the sam rhytm of the fluctuation of the led-lamp of the power supply. Is it a sign that the problem is the powersupply and not the JACK POWER PORT SOCKET PIN CONNECTOR?0 -
I have an Asus laptop, and they are renowned for the main battery failing (no charge), and the fans packing up inside, so they overheat and shut down.
Unclip the battery lock then slide the other bit, it simply pulls out. Try it on the charger alone, if thats no good, and you have wiggled the connector, then sounds like the charger is broken, you can buy a generic one from any PC shop. I 'think' I have seen them for £15-£25.
Also try to check the fans are working, there was a BIOS update to fix this on certain Asus, that caused other issues.
Your edit certainly points to a short/diode being faulty in the PSU. Replace as above.0 -

Sorry, it might lie on the fact that my English is still not very good, but I did not understand what you ment.
I should remove the battery? And what do you mean with" slide the other bit"? the other what?
I just did not understand your sentence that I quoted above.
Could you please be so kind as to explain it to me again?0 -

Sorry for that; if you unplug the laptop, turn it upside down, see where the battery is? There is a slider normally next to it. Slide this. That unlocks the slider next to it, slide that, and the battery pops up. Remove the battery. They can short out, but the laptop will run fine on mains power.
Plug the charger back in, see if it works, or still shorting out. If it works, the battery is broken, if no, new charger required.
But it seems clear that the charger is broken. Although these laptops have a tend to have failed batteries, you said your was good. Good luck!0 -
Test the DC output from the mains adaptor with a multimeter. If that's OK, then the charging jack has probably failed. It requires replacing and resoldering, cost usually about £60 upwards at a laptop repair shop (not PCW).No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks.
So translated would be: remove the battery and see if the netbook works without.
Of course I know how to remove a battery.:D0 -

This is exaclty what I want to do.
I was wondering if there are some big stores here in the UK like MEdiaMarkt, Saturn in Germany. I cannot find any.
There must be something like that here to.
I live in London. Maybe Curries is such a store?0
