Wrong item sent, totally different item on website

I wonder if you can help. I ordered something online. The picture is something, the item I received is something completely different.

Does anyone know the statutory rights over this? Will I just have to send the item back, or are they liable to honour the purchase that was pictured on the website?

Why not contact them first, and see what they say? They may not realise they've made a mistake.

If they haven't fulfilled the contract then under the Sale of Goods Act you are entitled to a full refund including postage, and they will have to pay any return postage too. Basically they have to put you back in the position you were in before you made the order.

You can't force them to send out the item you ordered, but if it was a genuine mistake they may do that if you ask. Have you contacted them to find out why they sent the wrong item?
