HDMI 20 metre connection

Hi

I wanted to connect my projector to my dvd player which is around 20m away - what is the best way to achieve this

i was going to get a 20m hdmi lead but understand some of these dont work on 1080p

i also see you can get cheap hdmi extenders on ebay so I could connect two 10m wires together or you can also get amplifiers

what is the most cost effective solution - I dont want to spend a huge amount

any epxerience or ideas greatly welcomed

DVD won't do 1080P. So is it a Blu Ray player?

    Yes sorry it's blu ray

How does Ethernet work - do you just connect Ethernet to the hdmi with an adapter ?

You need a small adapter box at each end to convert HDMI to Ethernet and back again.

Something like this would require 2 screened Ethernet cables:

As an alternative I went the wireless HDMI route which works really well for me - it is expensive but then it gets rid of the wires. :) Just to give you more options.

    How does Ethernet work

It's using the Cat5 "ethernet" cables in a point-to-point link, nothing to do with your local network.

20m HDMI may be doable with a quality shielded cable - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MacKuna-High-Speed-with-Ethernet-20m-HDMI-Cable-/261215841338

Before buying the Ethernet cable, check the instructions that come with the converters. I know of one that recommends Cat 6 for long cable runs.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

I'd recommend trying the 20m HDMI cable before spending a fortune on anything else.

I've used a 10m HDMI cable which works fine with no amplifier in place, so you may get away with the 20m one just on its own.

If it does need an amplifier/splitter, these are fairly cheap nowadays.

This setup would be much cheaper than anything else if it works!

Also, HDMI is HDMI - there is only one quality so no need to go for a branded product.

I would have thought using cat5 cables would degrade the quality of the image as you're converting it, twice.

    However I may be wrong.

Maybe in the long run, have a shuttle-type PC to act as the front end, while storing your videos on a server elsewhere in the house. But then that is expensive and not practical for many people.
