Oops, silly name on credit report

Hi,

Just wondering if something counts as fraud! I have made a mistake which has affected my credit record, it seems. I've just started collating my credit records from the three main reference agencies as i'm about to go through applying for a mortgage and have found on my Equifax online report under 'other searches' a silly name that I made up on the spot when I was applying for car insurance months back. I was using all the comparison websites and because I was fed up with customer service representatives calling me every 5 mins just after doing a comparison on (for instance) comparethemarket I decided on the next website I'd just make up a name and phone number. That silly made-up name has now appeared on my credit record! Can anyone tell me if I can get that taken off? And also would it count as fraud if it's showing on there? Seriously hope not!

Thanks

Is it just a credit search? I can't see it being too much of a problem as long as you stay consistent from now. I've had credit searches done against me with my name misspelled quite substantially, by Crapital One, and I have not had any complaints from National Hunter or the like.
    Oh, you wee bazza!

Yeah, it's just a credit search I believe, it's been done by various companies when I used the price comparison websites for car insurance. Like I say, I was just fed up of using one comparison site and then receiving tonnes of phone calls afterwards from pushy sales people even though I hadn't settled on choosing a particular insurer yet. So the next comparison site I used i just made up the name and contact number. Oh well, hopefully won't be a problem.

I'm surprised they managed to tie up a connection between the false name given and yourself in order for the search to appear on your file.

Indeed! That's what I don't understand! Perhaps it could be thought of as an 'association' which I can have removed from the file.
