You-Kip is merely pointing out that the monthly credit score schemes are pointless. You can access your credit report with call credit for free at noddle.co.uk or your statutary report from all 3 CRA's for £2.
You haven't answered any of the questions I posted so its going to be hard for the forumites to offer any suggestions if you dont explain what is in your report other than Experian see you as "excellent"
Ok thanks Chopper - in answer to your questions:
yes I am on the electoral role
Outstanding debt c. £2000 (c. 6% or income) excluding mortgage
No previous defaults / late payments
1 application for credit in last year (accepted)
amount of available credit according to Experian : £14 000 (could this be a factor?? eg. 2 existing credit cards, one with £2k on it -the other with £0)0 -

Credit availability in relation to gross income is now used as a hurdle by lenders.
Yes -thanks Thrugelmir - think you are probably right. I have an old credit card I only use sporadically with £0 balance. I didn't even realise this was a factor when applying for new cards - I wanted the Halifax clarity card as it was suggested on this site as a good card to get for spending abroad on my hols & thought you could have 3 or 4 credit cards on the go at once. Will have to be more careful. Case closed !0 -

thanks -good luck next time! It is good to know I'm not alone.0 -
I think it's so cheeky that banks don't bat an eyelid at the thought of taking money off us (paltry interest rates, charges around every corner, "administration" fees), yet when we want to borrow we get fobbed off with a "computer says no" response, even if credit files are squeaky clean.
Cheeky that they give you a banking service with branches, direct debits, a debit card, a call centre, and so on, and expect something back from it?
That seems no more "cheeky" than Tescos charging me more for a tin of beans than they themselves have paid for it wholesale.0 -
Having an active credit card account with high limit that you're not using is likely to be helping your credit rating. Read this Q&A.
We build scorecards for many high street lenders and the score you can get from us is based on these. But it only rates your personal credit report data and has to be based on a typical lender's criteria, so it can only be a guide. Lenders' scores assess a wider selection of data (such as income and your partner's credit report if you're financially linked) and will be configured to reflect their specific lending policies.
