Some advice re-Paypal

It's been a few years since I used ebay ( about 5) and I need to sell a few items. I closed my main account and I'm using a secondary account that I had, but it didn't have a Paypal account - I used to use ebay to find it and then either purchase direct or pay by card. I need to add a Paypal account, but my memory is a bit rusty and some of the rules might have changed. I linked a debit card, but it would not verify, the only option it gave me was to add a bank account - believe me, I followed Paypal's help page and where I was to get an option, it didn't exist on the page. So I linked a bank account and verified. But I don't like them having access to my account with a DD and I don't want it to be the primary payment source. Will Paypal have a paddy if I remove the bank account or will it just default to my debit card - which is what I want.
