Time wasters on eBay - bidding and not paying?

Hi,

I recently put 10 items for sale on eBay for a bit of a declutter. all items "sold", but two of them have not paid and no communication at all, a third one was for a bit of furniture, he did contact me within a day asking for time and address, but the agreed collection day has come and gone and no sign of him. So 30% were just wasting my time, why would people do that??

I also see that sellers cannot give negative feedback, but one of my 'buyers' had no feedback at the point of winning my item. Well, we all started from 0, I thought, but now it's grown to 7 over the last 4 days, and 5 of these are people like me saying no payment was ever received! Why does eBay allow this? Surely after the first referral of a new user, their account should be closed!

I'm not a seasoned eBay seller, so I don't know what to do. Do I need to open cases for unpaid items for all of them in order not to be charged fees?

Any advice welcome... and does anyone want a sofa in good condition? :-(

This happened to me when i was selling my iPhone recently, the buyer had 5 positive feedback's all saying he was a good payer. He never paid me for the phone and never replied to any of my messages.

You have to report the buyer as a none payer on each item and then the buyer will get a strike and ebay will refund you for any selling fees and let you relist for free. I don't understand why buyers don't at least tell you they don't want the item anymore - winds me right up

Do you have to open the full four days of the unpaid item process to finish to relist the item or give a second chance offer?

I think it's now only 3 days before you can start the unpaid item process.

Yes, you can't offer the item as a second-chance offer as there's a danger the original buyer will pay up and then the second buyer is going to be upset! [My most recent non-paying buyer paid up just 2-hours before the non-payment case was due to end!]

Please don't leave the non-paying buyer ANY feedback, as leaving a positive (which is the only kind you can) will cut across your non-payment case and nullify the non-payment strike the buyer would have got..

Thanks for your answers. The other thing is I listed on a free-listing weekend, I gather I will lose the 'free fees' if I come to re-list after a case is closed, or would eBay allow a like-for-like relist?

I should have added that you can message the (would be) second chance offer ID and let them know about the current non-payment case and the possibility of a second chance offer.

[Sometimes they are delighted to hear that they might have a second chance at buying the item].

Leaving positive feedback, even with a comment about non payment, negates the NPB - leaving positive feedback indicates the transaction has gone well!

There are as many idiot sellers as buyers, people who insist on trying to be helpful and leave comments are undoing the work of the NPB and allowing serial non payers to continue not paying.

And since I'm ranting about eBay, I found two people have since posted similar items to one of mine, copying word by word my item description! Why are people so lazy or unoriginal??

Hopefully you have reported them to ebay.
  • There is a free listing weekend this weekend so you can relist them for free :)
