Possibly this should be in the holidays and days out forum, not sure!
Anyhoos, I'm wanting to take 'im indoors away for 4/5 nights over New Years. Shouldn't be that hard, but he's a picky so and so.
It has to be somewhere:
Dog friendly
Quiet
Plenty of things to do - museums, cinemas etc
Not too far (so within 150ish miles of Cambridge)
Country manor house type with nice grounds
Haunted if possible! Don't ask me why, no idea.
Budget is flexible ish, up to around 1k all in I guess.
Any suggestions?
Ta!

I'd go to North Norfolk. On that budget you could get a nice country hotel - not sure about dogs though but I know my parents take theirs to a nice hotel in Aldeburgh ( Suffolk Coast) and there is Southwold on the Suffolk coast.
I've stayed at the Hoste arms in Burnham Market, that's lovely as is The Victoria at Holkham and Blakeney but I can't remember the hotel. You can do nice coastal walks with the dogs there we often take my parents' dogs out for nice bracing walks around Christmas and new year and although it's chilly, I love it. We've stayed at Hintlesham Hall, too but it's not coastal
I'm in Cambridge too, so it's all easily driveable.0 -
Some lovely places in Suffolk. One of my friends went here:

If you want haunted, go to Pluckley. Supposedly the most haunted village in the UK, it's in a lovely area with plenty of brilliant pubs, countryside etc.
For the manor house aspect (although you could probably find something similar around Pluckley as well) you could go to Ettington Park, close to Birmingham, Stratford and Leamington. We stayed there before and quite liked it. The spa inside is amazeballs and free to use
The grounds have plenty of lovely countryside too. You'd need to check, though, to see if the actual hotel itself is dog-friendly. 0
