Seems a tad strange, i entered a comp to win 2 theater tickets from the Dorset echo for a venue in the NE about 335 miles away! Seems a little bit far to go if someone in Dorset could only win and the tickets were probably not even that expensive...

I think the Dorset Echo site is just the site they happen to use to host most of the Newsquest comps. I've seen comps restricted to the North East on the Dorset Echo site.

I'm not 100% sure however, because I do find it a bit odd!

I've avoided these comps as I didn't think they related to my area, Cambs

because I like quoting myself, but just to show an example:

This is from the Darlington and Stockton Times, but it's on the Dorset Echo site.

I think it's possibly just certain comps that are restricted to area, I won with Newsquest a few weeks ago and I live in South Wales xx
I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

I've always been uncertain of which ones are area restricted, so don't enter any of them for that reason.

oooh i had this too but like you i was distracted with the children and couldn't really ask her more about it

Me too,bet we all won the same comp and they are going down the list to find someone in that area!

Gutted that I left my hubby's mobile no,he didn't question what comp it was (I'm a sales rep so I don't leave my daytime number as I never get a chance to answer my personal mobile during the day)

I don't tend to enter things that are specific to an area or involve travelling (concerts and events etc) so I bet it's a sneaky T&C they have added in.

Think I won (well not) a DVD and speaker system (boooooo hubby not actually listening)

I had the meanest phonecall too from newsquest, and the woman was horrid. She asked where I lived in the country and I said North West as i considered that i did. Anyway she said quite snootily really that's actually Yorkshire and i explained that I live on a street where one side is in Lancashire and the other is in Yorkshire, and she then ummed and ahhhed for a bit and said "oh that is close", but then said "well you haven't won the competition then" luckily I didn't ask her what it was as I thought its better not knowing :( Anyway she was so off with me that I just told her to keep the prize!) I felt really gutted, when I came off the phone :( But I'm keeping positive that a nice win will be just around the corner for anyone has had a let down like this. :)

ps I even said I would go stand on the other side of the street and take the call :rotfl:

i had a win with newsquest last week & they asked me if i lived in the north west - i gave them my address which was in lancashire & they still had a debate in the newsquest office for a few minutes before deciding my address was in an ok location

if they are going to restrict to certain areas it would be helpful if they made it clearer

I had a win with Newsquest via South Wales Argus in July and I live in Surrey.

Being Welsh born and bred I responded by telling the lady who wrote to me that I was pleased to win something from South Wales Argus as I used to read it a long time ago when I lived in Wales (before I married outside the faith i.e. an Englishman!) :rotfl:

She responded "Aaaaaaaargh! Traitor! Ahem…..DVD on its way" which I took in good faith :) so I don't think all who work at Newsquest are nasty.
Growing old is unavoidable. However, growing up is still optional.
• I've just had one of these phone calls - like most of the rest of you, I was taken a little bit by surprise as I was at work. I'm not entirely sure which prize I'd won but prob best not knowing. Will pay more attention to the T&Cs on the Newsquest ones in future!
Thank you to all the lovely competition posters
