help with hsbc accounts query

hi
been looking after my dad since heretired and previously I was full time carer for my mom till she died . anyway when he retired
he opened a premier current account to have his pension etc paid into
and a premier savings account(which he put the majority of his retirement payout into ) plus an Isa.
Basically he gives me his card to do his shopping and pay bills etc and after several years his pension is just not covering the outgoings so he wants to transfer some from his savings to top up his current account - he won't visit the bank or accept that they won't deal with me without some sort of mandate procedure so I agreed to try at the express banking cashpoint they have in branch . His Isa, current account and savings where all visible but it was only possible to transfer between the isa and current account -I couldnt see an option to transfer to and from the savings although
you could look at it and the statements etc
My only other thought is to try and set up the account online for him , he has resisted this so far as not a fan of technology but even less of a fan of dealing with people so is considering it , does anyone know if its fairly straightforward ? I can see it needs a phone security number which he says hes got but I know he won't want to talk to anyone on the phone either lol getting fairly exasperated with him as he's always been difficult but even more unreasonable with age -ie he wants me to sort it all out but won't help

I know your dad is reluctant but I would definitely recommend an appointment in one of the HSBC branches for you and your dad so that a third party mandate can be set up for you to act on his accounts. I would also seriously think about setting up a lasting power of attorney for long term.
You should not really be using your dad's debit card. If the bank found out they would cancel the card.
The express banking (statement machines) in the branches can do transfers, payments, print statements out.
Also the set up of internet banking is again really for your dad's use only. HSBC's internet banking involves the use of what is called a secure key. The activation of the internet banking is a bit fiddly but once set up is easy to use.0 -
thanks , I realise they could cancel his card etc but I can't get through to him as he feels its his money and should be able to do as he pleases -I know it doesn't work like that but like I say he is very stubborn and my priority is just to sort him out
with the express banking when i clicked on account transfers it didn't give an option for the savings account even though I could access it onscreen to view so bit confused by that
If I could set it up online I would show him how to use it and just be onhand to help , I was just worried about messing it up and getting earache from him really plus if he has to talk on the phone he is fairly deaf and gets verbally abusive which wouldn't help
I realise this isn't the ideal way to sort it out but he;s quite a difficult person

If the savings account shows up on the machine for balance purposes then there can be only one reason why transfers can not be made from it-the account has been frozen probably due to it being dormant.
This is yet another reason for your dad to go in the bank with you (take some ID for yourself) and get things tidied up and sorted out.0 -
ok thankyou , would they still continue to send the postal statements i it was dormant ? I know you're right , will persevere with him0

yes statements will still go out.0
