Good Morning All
I have posted before regarding my kitchen project,we have now decided on the brand, and all the remedial work and received the quotes.if anyone can comment on the prices i would appreciate their comments.
Kitchen units £6700
Installation. £1150
Builder, ceiling needs skimming and general plastering around the kitchen £750
Electrician,i am unsure about this one, fitting 10 ceiling lights and moving 6 power points from above the units to inside £800 and wiring in the under units lights
The appliances i have sourced from various suppliers and saved £900
Comments please

So what do you want to know?
Is it reasonable?, depends on location, but I'd say it looks fine given you are paying for multi trades.
Keep the same guy in charge of all the building works, even the electrics and plastering etc, don't give anyone a chance to blame others for hold ups;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Like Cy I don't think that looks unreasonable as a total. Sparky bit might be a bit high (but not by much). Plastering might be a bit high - if its just plastering and you are happy with multitrade approach unless the builder is a spread employ a spread yourself. Kitchen installation might be a tad thin but it depends how many units you are talking about. On balance it's in the ballpark.Good Morning All

OP should include themselves in that.cyclonebri1 wrote: »don't give anyone a chance to blame others for hold ups;);)

Hi Guys perhaps i did not explain myself,we live in Nottingham and the two kitchen suppliers we have got quotes from supply the units, appliances and get the installers, sparkies, plumbers and builders to quote seperately and you pay them direct.
They claim they project manage the installation0 -

Well you are within 20 miles of me in that case, I'll revise my view to say some of those rates seem a little high for this area.
In that case ensure there are no extras and any hiccups are their issueI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

I judge this as an odd set up, but if you are happy then fine.
There is very little to "project manage" with a kitchen. The work is routine, basic, work within the capability of a tradesman.
What financial interest do the component suppliers have in the finished product? Why are they not on supply and fit? If you have paid for the appliances why would they be interested in overseeing your installation and not being paid for this?0 -

Sheesh Cy sometimes you really do need to make your mind up. Your first statement surely includes your area otherwise you wouldn't have said it (yes I know you said depends on location). But actually (yes even for down South before you say it again) I've already said that two of the items look a little high but one looks somewhat low.cyclonebri1 wrote: »I'll revise my view to say some of those rates seem a little high for this area.
You can't say that and you know it. What about the extra gas pipe that nobody knew about that surfaces during the ripout of the old kitchen? That (and outside anybodys control others) is an extra obviously which has to be paid for and has to be an exclusion on the contract.Inthat case ensure there are no extras and any hiccups are their issue
OP your total looks to be in the right ballpark. Without sight of a detailed breakdown and without seeing it in the flesh thats the best answer you are going to get from me or anybody else.

Think the plastering may be a bit on the high side, but otherwise it all sounds fair to me.0

Makes no odds chap, given the area I can revise what I said, I did reserve the right;)
I'm not quite sure what I can't say, but the point is, IF the OP is going for a one stop trade shop, he/she dam well doesn't what "exclusions", (I'll call them extras), popping up and topping up what they expect to be all inclusive.
Don't forget, and this is why we often differ in opinion, I almost always come at a post from the customers side, ie how to save money, I can't help it if that does sometimes mean I feel the trades have to be held to a price.
Nothing annoys me more than extras, views and opinions, not rights and wrongs;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Yes. My point being that we boith said it was approximately iun the ballpark. That should have been and is IMO enough.cyclonebri1 wrote: »Makes no odds chap, given the area I can revise what I said, I did reserve the right;)
Fair enough. The next firm price is double the number I first calculated so that if there should be unforseen problems along the way I won't come back asking for more to resolve them. Mind you I get to keep the whole lot if there aren't any either. Is that a moneysaving approach? I don't think so. TBH you cannot have your cake and eat it too. Far too many people all over this board think you can.I'm not quite sure what I can't say, but the point is, IF the OP is going for a one stop trade shop, he/she dam well doesn't what "exclusions", (I'll call them extras), popping up and topping up what they expect to be all inclusive.
I rather resent the implication that any and all tradesmen on this site are not here to help people save money actually. I bet I'm not the only one either.Don't forget, and this is why we often differ in opinion, I almost always come at a post from the customers side, ie how to save money, I can't help it if that does sometimes mean I feel the trades have to be held to a price.
