AA automatically renewed my membership??

I checked my online banking and have been charged £174 for AA renewal f my breakdown membership, something I didnt ask for, and certainly ddint agree to. what are my rights to getting it cancelled, just a simple call to them enough?

Recheck what you agreed to when you took out the membership. Auto renew with the AA has been the norm for about five years now and it's stated in the paperwork you get when you join and in the renewal reminder as well.0

They did this to me a few years ago even though I knew I'd specifically selected the one year only option. It took quite a fight to get a refund, even when I showed them I'd gone with someone else.
They didn't send a renewal letter either - just took the money!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

I rang up and cancelled the renewal weeks before it was due.
They still tried to take the money and even sent me a letter saying they were unable to renew the cover.
Luckily I had cancelled the direct debit too!0 -
The AA are rubbish when it comes to membership setups.
I was a member of the AA for several years and then suffers a crash which meant i was unable to drive for a while, so cancelled my membership which went through fine. fast forward 3 year i have a new car and never thought about breakdown cover. I was walking through local market and their was an AA guy and the offer he had was too good to be true, so i decided to sign up. He told me not to fill in my bank details on the form as they would contact me in a few days for these, so this is what i did and he gave me a copy the form i completed. a week later no call from AA, but i received all the welcome back, which i thought strange as i have not been asked for my payment details. check my bank account and they had taken payment, which i thought how when i never gave them my bank details, so contacted them and was told that they had just used the bank details from my closed account. I was mad as they had no permission to take money as i have not given them payment details and they refused to refund as i had the welcome pack. I took the form i had from them showing no bank details given to my bank who immediately started a chargeback and were going to have their fraud team look into this in case the AA had done the same with any of their other customers. A few days later i get a letter from AA wanting to know why i have made a chargeback on the money.0 -

They didn't send or you dont believe you received one?
Insurers must send a renewal letter and failure to do so would be a breach of the ICOB rules.
That said, insurers do generally want the renewal to go by as quietly as possible. Whilst I have never been with (as a customer or consultant) the AA they wouldnt be the first that tried to make their renewal letters blend in with all the other junk mail you inevitably receive during your renewal season.
A fairly small test, which probably isnt statistically relevant, that we did previously had about 20% of policyholders either claiming not to have received or having forgotten they had received their renewal documents 2 weeks after they had been delivered.0 -

It was passed onto the banks fraud department as the AA used bank details from a CLOSED account they had as the form i had from them show that i never gave them bank details for the order, so they FRAUDULENTLY took the money from me.
so one again STOP TROLLING MY POSTS0 -

Insurers rarely have a concept of "accounts" they have policies that last a year. As long as their terms are correct they are entitled under the DPA to retain these details and use them in future policy years even though the original one will be CLOSED by the time the payments are used on the new policy. The ICO has reviewed this as a concept and has previously accepted as long as the terms are explicit enough.
I am not saying the terms were right or that what they did is correct but it isnt automatically FRAUDULENT as you claim and so the question on if the authorities agreed with your conclusion or not is relevant.0
