Looks like you missed post 12 aswell. :rolleyes:0 -
If anyone has any old laptops, Win 95 or Win 98, I would be grateful if they could let me know. I am visiting a village in Bangladesh in August and if they have Word on would be a great boon to the 300-400 students there. I will pay standard parcel postage and give feedback including photos if anyone wants to "re-cycle" them in this way.
Please PM me.0 -

No I didn't as that was a post supporting what was mentioned in the previous posts whereas the one I was pointing out was a blind repeat, not a reiteration."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

You don't need Word. In fact this would be the perfect situation to install Openoffice on all the laptops you get."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I broke up my old PC and sold the major parts on eBay you'd be surprised the price you can get I got back nearly half the cost of my new PC although I admit it was only about 4 years old. The old hard drives I keep however and either reuse 'em in my new PC or when they're really on their last legs I take a hammer to 'em and smash 'em to bits. Only way to be really sure I make sure the platters are well and truly mangled.
Did anyone catch that programme on TV a few months back? Panorama I think it was. People were taking their old PC's to the local council tip to dispose of it. The council were selling them on and they were being broken up and shipped off to Africa, the reporter bought some hard drives from this market stall there and they still had all the owners data still on them including bank details etc. Unwiped. Scary.Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.0 -

And I was supporting what that post said aswell let others post aswell as it does no harm what so ever, and if I want to repeat (reiterate) what someone else says thats entirely upto me.

If either the old PC or your new PC is a Dell, then Dell will kindly remove and recycle your old PC for free - see the Dell website. Remove the hard drive first to protect your identity etc. There is software that can remove data from a hard drive, but indefinite storage or a sledge hammer are also effective.0

Thanks Little John. I think I will take it apart and keep the old drive.
Paranoia- definitely I have already been a victim of Identity theft and it caused loads of problems. There was a program on tv a while back when people had given their PC's to chairty and they found them in some foreign county being used to get credit card info and the peoples details off from the ghost image.
It's not worth the hassle so I would rather scrap it and maybe salvage any parts and flog them on ebay.

Yes I know the TV Program the old PCs went to SCAM City nowhere else like Nigeria you do not want it heading there because it would mean trouble if you do take out the Hard Drive

I'm upgrading my PC and get my new one tomorrow. The thing is I don't know what to do with my old one. I am a little reluctant to sell it as I worry about ghost images and people getting off old information even after I delete it all.
It would be a shame to smash it up. Is there a way of wiping it so that I can be rest assured by more than 100% that none of my info will be left behind?

You should use your Old computer as a Telephone Recording Unit it will have massive capacity and be immune from Viruses and C Formats and therefore be
data safe brilliant for keeping a record of what you said when dealing with Customer Services departments for Bad Products all you need is a lead and some specialist software from Retell.
